A back-up guard at both EuroBasket Women two years ago and  the Olympics last year, Vanderwal has shown she can shine off the bench, particularly defensively, due to her tenacity and energetic approach which feeds into her ability to fulfill one-on-one defensive assignments. She has struggled to really make an impact offensively at international level so far, but has shown that she can get the business done at club level, having been a dominant player in the Irish Superleague, especially with University of Limerick. She has led her team to a host of silverware and also landed personal accolades. She spent four years in the NCAA with Boston University earlier in her career and led the Terriers to four America East Championship appearances.
